Sideworld is an art collective that hosts free film and art exhibitions showcasing underground cinema, experimental art, and bold independent filmmaking with the goal of connecting emerging artists whose voices often exist outside mainstream exhibition spaces. We look for inventive, unconventional films and artworks by artists with distinct voices and a willingness to take creative risks. Our events are designed to encourage conversation, collaboration, and lasting creative relationships.

Rules & Guidelines

Sideworld accepts art and film submissions in all genres from filmmakers around the world (regional, national, and international).

All regional filmmakers who reside within 100 miles of Philadelphia receive free submissions. This includes New York City, Baltimore, and more. For all questions regarding eligibility, please contact us at sideworldvideo@gmail.com.

All films submitted must be under 20 minutes.

All event announcements will be released on our website and Instagram.

Films must be in English or include English subtitles.

We accept films regardless of their premiere status. Previously screened films, whether at other festivals, in theaters, or online, remain eligible for consideration.

There are no restrictions on completion date. Films of any production year may be submitted.

There is no limit to the number of films a filmmaker may submit. Each submission will be considered individually.

We prioritize filmmakers who can attend, as well as entertaining, original, boundary-pushing films. Shorter films are more likely to be accepted due to time constraints.

A filmmaker Q&A happens after each block of films. Participation is not required.

Films are voted on by the audience; the most popular film wins an award.
